Tracing Tears
Through downtown Chattanooga runs the original trail of tears route. Andrew Jackson’s Indian Removal Act of 1830 created these routes that have been lost to the urban sprawl of the South. To phsyically represent the lives lost, shoes with the act written on them were worn across the 8 mile journey. Attatched were tubes filled with acrylic paint and water mixture that would be squeezed down a tube onto the shoes. The process visually symbolized the blood and lives lost through the forceful removal of the Native Americans from their homes.
